About Geotechnical Testing Services Southern
GTS has been established since 2002 and employees 30 plus people across three laboratories, servicing the Bendigo, Echuca and Wallan areas.
GTS’s five interrelated areas of expertise are: residential soil testing, construction materials testing, geotechnical drilling services, geotechnical consulting services and environmental consulting services.
Residential soil testing consists of two different types of investigations: Site Classifications and Land Capability Assessments (LCAs).
Councils require a Site Classification for all new residential developments.
A Land Capability Assessment is additionally required for new developments on an unsewered allotment.
Construction Materials Testing (CMT) is the evaluation of construction materials such as concrete, soil and aggregates to ensure they meet the specified Australian and International quality standards.

GTS operates both 4WD and trailer-mounted drilling rigs.
We have several licensed drillers experienced in geotechnical and environmental investigative drilling.
We offer the following drilling services:
- Solid & hollow flight auger drilling
- Wash boring & rock coring (NMLC)
- Standard Penetration Tests (SPT)
- Undisturbed thin wall tube samples
- Installation of groundwater monitoring wells
- Environmental drilling & sampling
GTS have the experienced personnel to conduct geotechnical investigations and offer professional advice on residential, industrial and commercial developments through to large multi-million dollar infrastructure projects.

- Foundation investigations
- Pavement investigations and design for new and existing/failed roads
- Dam and water storage investigations
- Bridge investigations
- Professional advice on building on and/or with soils, gravel and rock
- Cracked building investigations
Our Environmental Consultants are able to conduct Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) for residential and industrial subdivisions and new developments, along with contaminated site investigations and soil validation.
GTS has extensive local experience, particularly with central Victoria’s mining history and related potential contamination issues.
